We had our Press week on tuseday and wednesday for the spring summer 12 collection. It took place at one Marlebone, a beautiful venue and a good turn out. Model Sophie Anderton, the new face of our spring summer 12 campaign made it to the event in the evening looking more georgous than ever in a James Lakeland leopard print detail leather gilet and black polo neck. The event got us all very excited about the new collection!

The Fashion city York events took place on the 10th and the 17th of September.

The Live Window that took place at Browns showcased a selection of the stores new season and included two outfits by James Lakeland. James Lakeland also represented Browns at the Stylefocus event held in Parliament Street. The event brought together brands from across the city including Vivienne Westwood, Reiss, and York based designer Isabel Wong to showcase the diverse and unique shopping destinations in York.Pictured below Evie Dalby modelled for us at both these events.

Interview with Suzy Hall manager at James Lakeland in Hoopers Tunbridge wells

Suzy has been working for James Lakeland in the Tunbridge wells store for 5 ½ years now and has been the shop manager for 2 years. In an interview she talked about the versatility, loyal customers and key pieces this season for James Lakeland.

'What has always attracted the customer to James Lakeland is how all his clothes are comfortable, practical and of great quality. They are something to admire and actually wear, made for the real woman!'

Her first key piece was the beige fur gilet. ‘Fur is making a real come back right now It can be worn over polo neck and jeans or with a gown and a vintage broach, a piece that won’t date and that suits all ages’.

The second key piece she chose was the long tulle dress; ‘this was in fact the first item I bought from this collection. It’s brilliant as a day or evening dress, flattering and comfortable it is great paired up with a waistcoat, It is great how you can mix and match James Lakeland pieces as they flow from one season to the next. This brings me to my third key piece the Drape pocket waistcoat; another popular piece that looks far more expensive than it is and once again is an extremely versatile piece that can be worn funkilly or formally’.

‘What I love about this autumn / winter collection is the colour. Rather than just the usual browns, blacks and greys he has included peacock, aubergine, plum and bright red giving more personality to your outfit'.

Her fourth key piece is the blot print tunic; ‘surprisingly, older ladies have been wearing it with a legging which shows how we are branching out to a wide range of customers even with the more youthful pieces. But it is all about getting customers to try the clothes on even if they feel intimidated by them or don’t feel they have much hanger appeal because once its on they fall in love with the piece’.

How do people respond to the leather leggings? ‘So far customers are a little unsure but we have only had them in for 2 or 3 days and I thinks it’s all about getting them to try them on before judging them. It is important to have diversity in a collection, contemporary pieces as well as the classic’.

'we often get customers commenting when they see his collection about pieces they have bought from previous seasons that they still have and wear 4-5 years down the line'.

The final key piece she chose was the Bicol colour block dress; ‘it has been more popular in the colours red and black, it’s a great versatile dress which can be worn in the office to work or paired with heels for an evening out'.

We recently had the photoshoot for the spring summer 12 collection. Once again the showroom was transformed into a state of the art phototgraphic studio. We had the lovely Bo from select models to model the clothes and a great team of stylists and makeup artists to make the spring/ summer 12 collection look phenomenal. Full of playful pieces the photo's were shot with this in mind. Take a look at the video and a sneak peak at some of next seasons pieces that are set to make summer 12 a scorcher!

Photoshoot with Ian Macaulay and James

Scottish photographer, Ian Macaulay came in last week to photograph James Lakeland for an exhibition in association with Silvrman Shliker LLP solicitors.

“Anything as long as you are comfortable,” was Ian’s answer when James asked him how to pose. Fittingly this is the same way James wants to make his customers feel, comfortable. These metaphorical portraits were shot in one of the corners of our Show Room; with James standing in between two mirrors, evoking the theme of ‘self reflection.’

We caught up with Ian after the shoot, to ask him about his upcoming exhibition:

“The exhibition is sponsored by a law firm. It is their 30^th anniversary of being in business and I am photographing key clients, contacts and friends of the firm. There is no brief so I can do what I like; it is great to be able to do just what we want. For example, one of the clients I photographed runs a colour printing company. His offices were horrible, but he had this fabulous red front door so I photographed him in front of it. Another client is a lawyer, so his photograph was a very symmetrical and formal composition. An accountant I photographed, his offices were also horrible, but he had this fantastic reception area which was all marble. I photographed him in black and white, and we arranged it so the reflection from his glasses gives this big light in his eyes. These are processed in such a way that brings out all the details in their faces, they are hyper-detailed. It brings out all the texture, so it is nice and gritty. The idea is to try and make each photograph distinct on its own, since there is no story to back it up; it is just the picture on its own without any captions.”

British top model Sophie Anderton and close friend of James Lakeland recently did two fantastic photoshoots with photographer Sarah Louise Johnson using almost all James Lakeland pieces, she looks incredible in them so we got her into the office for an interview about her new blog, the photo’s and what it is she loves about James Lakeland!

What is it you like about James Lakeland clothes?
Sophie;
Ever since I was 14 and first began modelling I have loved to look smart and elegant and his clothes give you that. I also love how they feel, the textures and quality that give you a sexy look but in a smart way which is perfect for the kind of woman I am.
James; the first time I met Sophie she wasn't a major model she was just starting off but from the way she presented herself and her look I knew she would grow to be a top model one day.

What are your big fashion LOVES at the moment?
Sophie; I am really into my monochrome right now in fact i would love to model one of your pieces, the Vicci skirt and blazer i just love!

I believe you also have your own blog, what is yours all about and who is it for?
Sophie;
Its a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog whioch is slowly advancing into my own website where I give advice to real woen who like me have found themselves restricted by money at times; sharing my beauty tips I have learnt along the way and to let women know you don't need a vogue front cover price tag to look good there are other ways.
James;
Sophie is the perfect person for this, she has been through it all, seen it all experienced difficult times, but it is the fact that she has come out from it looking fresh and young and most of all happy which is what every womans wants.

The Fashion indusry is a tough one and at times very fickle, how did you learn to get past that and move on?
Sophie; Yeah its very true in fashion it is hard to stay at the top and many girls including myself struggle with weight issues and get lead down the wrong path including myself but if you stay true to yourself and stay strong you will make it through and actually end up learning from those mistakes!

James; Yeah sophie is not just a model, she has stayed true she is 'sophie Anderton' she is a personality!

Sophie; I believe building good relationships with designers has helped and what i love about James is his understanding of women and loyalty to his customer, he is anything but fickle with his customers as he wants them to come back time after time!

Charity Fashion Show Fun

With Fashion week looming we all got into the catwalk spirit as the Radlitt united synagogue was transformed into a James Lakeland fashion show. Designer themed tables and competitions made it a real laugh and our very own James Lakeland table won the evenings quiz! But the main focus of the night was the cause. The whole night was in aid of the charity WIZO uk and we managed to raise an incredible £2420!!! We want to thank everyone for a fantastic evening and an amazing result. WELL DONE GUYS!!!!

Irene Watt discovered James Lakeland 8 years ago in Glasgow and has been buying in Glasgow House of Fraser and in Silvrburn ever since, now owning 200 dresses. Being such a devoted customer we had to delve into her wardrobe and ask her what keeps her coming back.

When did you start buying James Lakeland?

It must have been about 8 years ago when the concession opened in House of Fraser in Glasgow. I think initially I bought a couple of Summer coats which I still have in the wardrobe today and could be brought out and worn anytime.

Why do you love James Lakeland?
I love the fact that the clothes are different, they fit so well and

I always feel good in them. It's not until you try them on that you
see all the detail in the cut and style.

What keeps you coming back?
It's always very exciting to see the new collection and Tracey, the manager, always knows exactly what I like and what I'm likely to buy. She's enthusiastic about the stock and never fails to find me something I haven't noticed before.

How many James Lakeland dresses do you own?

Well, I think I've lost count now, but it must be around 200. I know that sounds a lot but I've been buying them every season since 2003 and I've never thrown any of them out. They don't go out of fashion and it's nice to be able to go back to some from years ago. The only problem is finding somewhere to store them!!

Which is your favourite?
That's really difficult as I love them all. I actually woke up this morning at about 2am going through them in my mind trying to decide. I've always loved my leopard print jersey dress which I wear with boots and the little black ruffle cocktail dress I always take when I go on a cruise to the Med in the summer.

Do you have haye background in fashion?
No, but I've always loved clothes and fashion since I was a little girl and my husband was a ladies fashion buyer in Glasgow, so he enjoys coming shopping with me.

How would you describe your style?

I asked a friend what she thought and she said elegant and sophisticated. I'd like to think I'm that but with a twist. I like things to be a little bit quirky, but not over the top, and James' designs fill that bill perfectly for me. In fact,
there's rarely a day when I'm not wearing James Lakeland.

Having started figure skating at the young age of 14 she has always been at one with the ice and becoming one of the judges and head coach on the hit ITV show dancing on ice, Karen barber has never been a stranger to success.

We met up with her in our store on Monday to dress her, What a lovely lady! She explained to us how since losing two and a half stone in weight she has a new found love for clothes and wants to be more adventurous with her style. We’re looking forward to see her on the next series of dancing on ice!

Karen Barber Interview

What are you working on at the moment?

I am taking a break but auditions have already started for the new series of Dancing On Ice so we are in preparations for the new series.

What was your favourite Dancing on Ice moment?

My favourite dancing on ice moment of which there have been many has to be Todd Carty though difficult to choose as there are so many memorable performances from each series.

Do you have a favourite celebrity outfit from the show?

Favourite celebrity outfit impossible to choose our wardrobe department does such an amazing job and there have literally been hundreds of outfits now after 6 series.

How would you describe your style?

My style I think is classic, smart I like to look tailored and now having lost over 2 stone have become a little more adventurous enjoying the shorter lengths and being able to mix my style and try new things but I have found a new interest and enjoyment in clothes having lost my way a little I now look forward to my next outfit and enjoy making the effort to look nice whatever the occasion from day wear to live TV!

What is your favourite piece in your wardrobe? / 6. What could you not live without?

Favourite piece in my wardrobe well I had a few James Lakeland dresses which were timeless and helped me out on many occasions now having lost the weight its time to reinvest in my wardrobe but what I couldn’t do without is my James Lakeland black and brown trousers they are my essentials and having lost the weight i took them to my dress maker who took them in and so I could continue to wear them

Do you have a fashion icon?

Fashion Icon not sure but I do like the style of Victoria Beckham and also Danni Minogue and now Kate, they always look ladylike and well groomed.

It was all GO GO GO last week as we converted the show room into a top class studio when we shot the A/W 2011 collection. There are some really beautiful pieces for you to look out for and we know you probably can’t wait to take a look so we’ve posted some behind the scenes sneak peek pics and even a video or two for you to check out. It took 3 long days to complete all the looks but the end results were brilliant!!

We all saw the fairytale wedding between Prince William and kate Middleton which saw her wearing a beautiful lace sleeved dress by Alexander Mcqueen. Since then delicate whites have launched themselves on the runways of top designer collections and all across red carpet events, and even Kate still is. She was spotted in a gorgeous white dress at Wimbledon and more recently in a long Grecian dress at the best of brits awards.

The recent Love ball in Paris and Harry potter premiere also adopted the look, white gowns, embellished tiaras and fairy tale fascinators!

So how can we achieve this? Look for Ruffles, pleats and lace and even try layering white on white to be bang on trend, as seen in the Dior 2011 collection. James Lakeland has a great selection of whites this season that include elegant lace, taylored whites and feminine detail.

James in his Top Hat and Tails

James Lakeland went to Ascot yesterday to see the races; he headed off from head office in his top hat and tails. Ascot is a great summer event and people always dress to impress, especially the ladies with their hats.

One of the classic ascot images is of Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) in an elegant monochrome dress with a huge oversized hat eventually shounting profanities to the dismay of her well to do onlookers. Luckily there was no such spectacle yesterday.

It is Ladies Day on Friday and we are looking forward to seeing what the women will be wearing!

You certainly know Fashion never sleeps, so I landed in Milan a week ago to attend one of the greatest events in fashion,MODAPRIMA 70 at Fiera Milano City.

If you are wondering what I'm speaking about, well I'll tell you :

MODAPRIMA,it is an international fair featuring ready-to-wear men’s and women’s clothing and accessory collections created-for-large-scale-distribution for spring-summer 2012 – with sneak-peeks of the fall-winter 2011-2012 collections.This edition of Modaprima – the most important international trade fair for this specific market segment – is showcasing over 120 COLLECTIONS produced by a selection of the best Italian firms specializing in fast fashion for medium-and-large-scale retailers worldwide. The last edition of Modaprima welcomed 1,750 visitors, almost 800 of whom came from over 50 countries, a 14% increase. I think more events like this should be hosted in The Fashion World because it is a really good opportunity to see new trends coming and raising the creativity of the designers.
As you know i'm always looking for inspiration because I want my collection to be different from the other fashion labels on the market, I'm always striving to give you something new and fashionable.

Sneak Peek at the Upcoming Collection

I recently held the photoshoot for the James Lakeland autumn/winter collection and thought I'd give you the first look at the new collection.

Most of the collection is made of earthy color tones, such as black, taupe, mink, charcoal and grey. But I have mixed in some purples and reds for the women who like to make a statement around the holiday season. I have chosen fabrics that are sure to keep you warm in the bitter London winters!

I believe this collection has something for everyone. There are long ankle length dresses, as well as trendy leather leggings. I have created a lot of knitwear that can be used as a tunic to be worn with leggings or as a dress for the more adventurous.

I am really looking forward to sharing this collection with you in a few months! Until then, enjoy the James Lakeland summer collection here.

Dear Jame's friend with this post we would like you to get to know James and his summer collection a little better:

I: Who inspired you to became a fashion designer?

J: My earliest reccollections are of rows of beautiful coats, leather coats and all types of luxury coats.

My father owned a factory in Italy and my brother, sister and I were often vistors there, enjoying the attention of the employees.In my family there was always either an exhibition or a fashion show to go to and when we were allowed to join, it was the biggest treat. I loved the models walking up and down showing off the lovely collection of coats and the electrifying atmosphere of the shows remained with me for a long time.

I was probably inspired by my backround an I soon Found out I had a flair for clothes.

I:What do you think are some of the biggest trends we are going to see this summer?

J: This season the trend is definitely for dresses: floaty dresses, figure hugging leopard print dresses in a soft material, and silk printed sofisticated dresses fo cocktail wear. Another trend is for casual and comfortable garments: short dresses/tops worn with leggings , and floaty sleeveless linen dresses are a must in this summer's wardrobe.

I:What inspired you to create the new summer collection?

J: I am always inspired by my travels round Italy, when I go to Florence or Rome the colours of the buildings the displays in the windows, the women in the street, all that inspires me and I work around the textiles and the colours of the moment

I:I f you had to describe the collection in three words, what would they be?

JGlamorous, wearable and unusual

I: What tips would you like to give to women in regards to fashion?

J:My aim is to dress women so that they can feel beautiful and confident and can fit easily in whatever environement they find themselves in. I aim to dress all sizes and shapes and make everyone happy. I would advise women to try different fashions and not be afraid to try new styles.

I am so excited to share with you that the James Lakeland spring/summer collection has caught the eye of Marie Claire magazine!

The collection is being displayed on the magazine's UK website, along with other great brands, such as Monsoon, Pure Threads by Emma Watson and Alberta Ferretti, and Karen Millen.

I have always thought the summer is a great time to step away from the solid colors of the winter and indulge in bright colors and magnificent prints. A New James Lakeland Adventure

My passion for retail began when working at my father's manufacturing business, which specialised in luxury suede, leather, and men's and women's wear.

Learning the importance of quality, great design, interesting details and personal service, it was this "grass roots" experience and love of fashion that encouraged me to start my own women's wear collection.

In 2000, I launched my first capsule knitwear label. This collection took shape in luxurious cashmere and wool blends in rich tonal shades. The look was effortless elegance, providing great wardrobe basics, an instant hit with a loyal customer following.

Today I have decided to start an amazing new adventure in order to create a closer relationship with all of you. Clients and friends often ask me for fashion advice and wonder what this glamorous industry is like, and I will be doing just that: giving you fashion tips and welcoming you to behind the scenes of the fashion world.
